Stancor is lovely stuff, as is Thordarson. I came upon a stash of Thordarson transformers that had been sitting in a dead Dodge van for 11 years out back of a mobile radio shop. I bought a pickup truck load for $100-got all the good stuff-and kept the really good stuff for projects.
Another one you see in the replacement trade is Merit. Not bad stuff, but not nearly as pretty as Stancor or Thordarson-on the cheap end of the spectrum. Triad is the goods, but they were primarily a west coast operation which we do not see much here. Anything that was made by Gibson in Kalamazoo was 'born in Chicago'.
Every time I can get my hands on one, I'll buy mid fifties or sixties home console stereos, pull the chasses, map the voltages, label the leads and put the iron on the shelf. Fifties era Magnavox and RCA hi-fi sets have nice iron.
