Thanks for the info Wally. I've used that tele with a variety of vintage amps, including tweeds, blackface, marshall's and vox's to name a few. All tones were thin and extremely treble heavy. It was difficult to control the tone until I removed a leg of that cap. The control is much more usable now, perhaps that mod may have worked better for fender if they had stuck with the 250K pots instead of the 1 meg pot, which IMO seems way over the top for a single coil pickup.
