67 Tele control wiring question

Subject: 67 Tele control wiring question

I have a late 67 tele that looks untouched in the control cavity. It has 1 meg stackpole pots which seems to be kind of strange for a fender and also has a 1000 pico farad cap on the volume control. I've seen this setup on a few other late 60's tele's. I'm guessing this was stock for that year. I've disconnected one leg and boy does it sound better. Can anyone tell me if this was a stock circuit for the tele and if so when did Fender switch to this setup? Why the 1 meg pot? Seems way to large for a single coil. Thanks for any and all info.
