This is a question I've had ever since I got my copy of the Blackguard book... in it, Nacho sez that Fender bought a die in March 1950 in order to cut and file bass-side strip tuners into separate in-line tuners, and that the second prototype guitar already had these tuners. I actually have 2 questions: How long was this done? Also, If each tuner was cut and filed from strips, wouldn't each tuner look completely squared off on each end? Most of the early tuners I've seen look like they were not cut or filed from strips, but rather from individual pieces, because you can see part of the remaining fancy "pointy" profile.
