That's a very good question! That never occurred to me when I read about the 1.5" thick early bodies.
I have a 1950 Esquire with very early features... it doesn't have a pine body, but it has the next generation body style: ash with a thickness of 1.69" (as opposed to the later standardized thickness of 1.75"). The weird thing about it is that the bridge pickup cavity is DEEPER than normal (compared to my '55 Esquire). It is 1-13/16". All the other cavities are the normal depth, except the control cavity is larger than normal as far as width. I too, would appreciate any info about early cavity depths...
