Check to make sure your shield ground is intact all the way back to the amp ground/chassis and signal and shield have not been reversed somewhere. And yeah, you got it right, the Lace Sensor sux! Doesn't even sound like a dobro through an amp. You might want to consider going to a contact pickup such as the Fishman resophonic pickup. I have been told that pickup gives you the most bang for the buck.
