Solid state amps are happy with no load. They get cranky when the load is too low (to low of an impedance). Tubes are just the opposite.

We have had several customers use attenuators with solid state amps and are happy with the results.

It isn't just power tube distortion that is the origiinal reason for attenuators.

Preamp distortion occurs also because the volume contols are cranked to drive the output hard.
