Subject: Attention TED: Which attenuator should I use for this situation?

I have read and re-read the Weber attenuator page and there are several of the MASS products (as well as new ones on the way as well) and then the Tone Dump series and then the Resistor types. Hopefully there is someone knowledgeable with all of these types to be able to steer me in the right direction.

I have a polytone Mega Brain head (80 watts) that is all solid state. I love the sound of it through my Raezor's Edge cabinet and would like to get that tone recorded without having to use my speaker for late night recording when I am my most creative. I have read SS amps don't need attenuators, but they always mentioned a caveat of, "but don't blame me if your amp blows up." if I play through the Polytone without a speaker hooked up.

The Polytone in question does have a line out, a headphone out as well as (don't have the amp in front of me right now) I think a pre-amp output jack. I was planning originally to just use whichever output sounded best from the Polytone, into my Palmer PDI-09 direct box and use that for it's wonderful speaker simulation, and that into my recorder. After feeling a little uneasy about running my Polytone naked without speakers I wanted to find out from the man himself (Ted) which one of his attenuators would work for me (if I even need an attenuator in the first place). If I could have gotten in touch with Ted this post wouldn't have been necessary, so I appologize for such a long winded message. I also posted a message in how to contact Ted as I have been trying for weeks now to no avail.

Thanks for listening/reading and I appreciate any responses.
