Model Descriptions

Our model indentification system assigns either a name, a number, or both to any particular model. The Vintage Series generally uses numbers, while the High Power and Signature Series uses names. In the Vintage Series, the first number indicates the size of the speaker, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 15. The next chararcter is the type of magnet. 'A' indicates that it has our Classic AlNiCo magnet circuit. 'F' indicates that it has our exclusive Ferromax ® ceramic magnet circuit. Our Ferromax ceramic magnet circuits employ the same tight gaps as our Classic AlNiCo magnet circuits and are therefore very aggressive, dynamic, and have excellent control over the entire power range.
The next set of numbers indicate the voice coil size. Generally, as the voice coil size is increased, so is the power handling. For our Vintage Series numbering system, the 100 is 1", the 125 is 1.25", the 150 is 1-1/2", and the 200 is 2" diameter voice coil.
A final suffix on the model number indicates a particular cone or deviation from the standard model. An 'O' indicates an original cone (smooth, unribbed), while a 'T' indicates a ribbed cone tuned for extra treble.

Vintage American Model Descriptions

Our series of vintage style loudspeakers is modeled after some of the more popular vintage guitar amp speakers and is very close in all respects. Whether it's the vintage style hotdog slotted baskets, the flat felt dustcap, the seamed, ribbed cone, or the large AlNiCo ring magnet, we think you'll find our speakers to be true vintage style speakers. And once you've heard them, we're certain there will be no doubt in your mind. In addition to our standard models, we have 'in-between' models that never existed. We classify these models as part of our Hybrid Series which allow the customer another step in the refinement of their desired tone. With regards to recommendations on which speaker we think would be best suited for a particular application, we found during our testing that every player had an affinity for a particular model or models, and it depended on his or her favorite setup and playing style. For that reason, we find it difficult to make an absolute recommendation on any of our models. We did, however, arrive at a general characterization across the model lineup, and it is as follows:

* Blue Dog and Silver Bell, (1 3/4" VC, ribbed cone) Classic British tone with strong mids and chimey highs.

* Blue Pup and Silver Ten, (1 1/4" VC, ribbed cone) 10" versions of the 12" models.

* '100' models (1" VC, straight cone) 8, 10, 12, 15. Warm, crunchy, '50s Tweed cheap speaker tone.

* '125' models (1 1/4" VC, ribbed cone) 8, 10, 12, 15. Brighter, smoother, woody, reedy, early 60's Fender brown tone.

* '150' models (1 1/2" VC, ribbed cone) 10, 12, 15. Big Low End, Smooth Highs Rolloff, Punchy, Dynamic, mid 60's
     Fender BF tone.

* '200' models (2" VC, straight cone) Bass, Keyboard, Leslie lower rotor driver, etc.

WeberVST Original Designs

10A150
We call this model 'The vintage model that never was'. This speaker uses a 1 1/2" voice coil like its big brother, the 12A150, as well as the large AlNiCo ring magnet. As far as we know, this model of speaker was never produced for guitar amps. Most, if not all vintage 10 inch speakers used a plug type magnet rather than the large ring magnet, and also used only 1" and 1 1/4" voice coils. The 10A150 offers high sensitivity, tight low end, clear highs with smooth upper rolloff. Also available with 40oz Ceramic magnet. (10F150)

AlNiCo Blue Pup
This is a 10" version of our P12B Blue Dog. We call it the 'Blue Pup'. It uses a 1 1/4" voice coil and the AlNiCo plug magnet. If you like the brit sound of the Blue Dog, we're sure you'll be impressed with the sound of the P10P. It has excellent sensitivity, overall smooth response without being HIFI-ish, and has clear, clean highs. Also available with 30oz Ceramic magnet.(Ceramic Blue Pup)

AlNiCo Silver Ten
This is a 10" version of the P12S Silver Bell. We call it the 'Silver Ten'. It features a 1 1/4" voice and an AlNiCo plug magnet. Also available with 30oz Ceramic magnet. (Ceramic Silver Ten)

AlNiCo 10V
This is a similar to the Blue Pup, with the exception that it uses a 1-3/4" voice coil and the 40oz AlNiCo ring magnet. The ceramic version (Ceramic 10V) uses the 40oz ceramic magnet.

High Power Series
This series of speakers uses 60oz Ferromax® ceramic magnet circuits with industry standard components. Four tone recipes are available. The California Series exhibits clean, dynamic, full range tone. The Chicago Series exhibits a later breakup, on-the-edge tone. The Texas Series exhibits a rough, tough, early breakup tone that is aggressively crunchy. The Thames Series exhibits clear highs with the characteristic British upper chime and ring. For more information on these models, please visit our
High Power Series page.

Hybrid Series
The hybrid series came about after several customers requested certain standard models with more power handling, more loudness, etc. So, we offered the cone of one model with the voice coil and magnet of another model. This fills the gap between the various models. For more information on the hybrid series, please visit the
Hybrid Series page.

15A200 Bass Woofer
Our P15LL bass woofer was developed for those who want true vintage tone as the lower rotor driver and as a vintage bass driver. It uses the large AlNiCo ring magnet, the 2" voice coil and is 16 ohms. Also available with 40oz Ceramic magnetic circuit (15F200).

Magnet Options

Classic AlNiCo

Most of our speakers are supplied with AlNiCo 5 magnetic structures standard. It will be either a plug type or a ring magnet. All AlNiCo magnets are cast units made to the exact specifications as those used in vintage speakers. The mechanical parts used in all magnetic structures are precision machined rather than stamped and tolerances are held to within .0005". The 100 magnet is a 1.45" x .970" plug. The '125'magnet is a 1.67" x 1.08" plug. The 'Blue Dog, Silver Bell, 10V, and 15A200 magnets are a 4" x 1.5" ring.

FerroMax®

All of our speakers which are normally supplied with AlNiCo magnetic circuits are also available with ceramic magnetic circuits. We refer to the ceramic versions as the 'FerroMax' series. It will be either a 20oz, 30oz, or 40oz ceramic magnet, depending on model. To specify a ceramic magnet model, simply substitute a 'F' for the 'A' in the Vintage Series model number.

AlNiCo 'Plus'

Some of our speakers are available with our exclusive AlNiCo 'Plus' magnetic circuit. This is a magnetic circuit which includes both ceramic and AlNiCo magnets. This arrangement combines the strength and stability of a ceramic magnet with the unique characteristics of an AlNiCo 5 magnet. The magnet type letters in the model number for speakers equipped with the AlNiCo 'Plus' magnetic circuit is 'AP'. A detailed technical description of AlNiCo 'Plus' goes beyond the intent of this presentation, however it will be made available at a later date.

NeoMag

Our NeoMag series of speakers feature neodymium magnets which offer tremendous magnet strength for small size. This is particulary important in larger speaker installations such as PA bins as a weight saving advantage. NeoMag equipped speakers are much lighter, yet more sensitive than their ceramic magnet counterparts. Our NeoMag program is still under development but will be available in the near future. Most of our series will be available with a NeoMag magnet structure.
