The amp is completely stock with the exception of the upgraded speaker (12F150), NOS tubes throughout (Sylvania, GE, Magnavox) and also using the Red/White Taps on the PT. Other than that, everything is built to spec. It is also equipped with a Sylvania 12AU7A (1950's Black Long Plate Square Getter). All other tubes are from the mid 50's to early 60's. |

![]() The nameplate is just temporary, heh heh. I'm thinking about removing the real one from my gas grill and going with that... To make the innards more accessible I detached the shelf from the cabinet and converted it to a drawer:
It was a simple matter of sawing through the glue joints where the shelf is attached to the cleats at the four corners with a narrow kerf saw. The shelf is nailed to the upper cleats, so a hacksaw comes in handy. I then sanded the ends of the shelf to make it easier to slide in and out, and added the two horizontal cleats on the sides. For cooling I mounted a box fan over the cutout under the PT, which I enlarged slightly for better airflow. Air circulates out both ends of the power amp chassis and into the space where the tubes reside, then out the upper vents. It runs pretty cool that way.
I mounted the 3PDT hi/lo power switch/impedance selector on a bracket which covers the OT cutout and helps ensure positive airflow with the forced air cooling setup:
I also changed the cathode resistor to the inverter stage from 1.2K to 470 ohms, which cut the fizz and warmed it up a bit. |
