Depends on what you are looking for I would suppose.
Any kind of material can be used but the accoustic properties change with the material chosen. Think drums for example. A sanre can sound good in wood steel aluminum or fiberglass all of which have been used for snares and tneor drums while for a bass the larger size can sound good in any material but has different resonant qualities for wood steel or fiberglass.
How many streo speaker cabinets have you seen with plastics for the box ? the speaker of course is the major component but the box and how it is constructed, interior dimensions, and materials all contribute to the final tone.
Might be something to experiment with though....
wonder what the resonant qualities of a very dense material like that would be and how well the cab is constructed ie how solid the joints for example can determine if it will have any knwelcome vibrations taking place. ALso think about how sound differs in two rooms of the same size and shape. one is lined with wood panelling and the other is gard surface like for example stone or plaster over brick. the wood absorbs and gives a warmer quality while the stone or other hard surface creates echo qualities and allows more random sound vectors to develop.
Interesting question....
